The Floyd County Library’s Carnegie Cultural Arts Center (CAC), a branch of the Library, is currently seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Museum Educator with a strong emphasis on local and regional black history.
Summary Serves as primary support for public programs including education, exhibitions, tours, events, and community outreach initiatives focusing on local/regional black history.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Work collaboratively with the Exhibitions & Special Collections Leader to develop, implement, facilitate and promote a diverse schedule of exhibitions specifically local and regional black history for all ages.
· Give tours, teach classes, and implement educational programming for youth, families, and schools in and off-site.
· Provide educational classes for schools both in person and virtually.
· Create and deliver programming relevant to local/regional black history for the community.
· Work collaboratively with Operations Leader to develop, implement, facilitate a diverse schedule of public programs.
· Represent the Museum interacting with all levels of the organization, and working closely with Visitor Services Associate to contribute to a positive experience for visitors.
· Make educational presentations to various community organizations to promote collections and build partnerships.
· Staff CAC Exhibitions as needed, including two nights a week and at least 2 - 3 Saturdays.
· Research upcoming exhibitions and assist with the development of exhibition concepts.
· Compile and update biographical information for exhibition labels and educational guides, preparing works for exhibition and installing works in galleries.
· Assist with grant writing and developing budgets
· Working with Marketing staff to assist with promotional campaigns in support of exhibitions, programs and special events including developing press release, website copy, and contributing to social media platform
· Perform other duties and tasks assigned relating to fundraising, development, programs, collections, tours, and exhibitions as needed.
Education and/or Experience
· Bachelor’s degree and 1 – 2 years of related experience
· Proven ability in working with diverse collections specifically local/regional black history
· Excellent communication skills
